About the river:
The Gljufura River is a beautiful little salmon river in the North-West of Iceland. This river is highly challenging and only recently been converted to fly only and catch and release. With crystal clear water and small pools this river offers challenging salmon fishing for the adventurous flyfisherman. As the name suggests it runs mostly in a gorge and access to some pools are not for everyone as some rock climbing can be required to get in position.
In 2013 fishing pressure was kept very low with only a few days on offer. The run of salmon was very good and all fish caught were released back into the river. This year was the start of a project aimed at bringing the life back to this river and increase salmon runs. The idea is to let nature take it's course. We are happy to be able to offer fishing on this river but we do not recommend this river to anyone not fit to easily do the neccessary rock climbing involved.
