About the river
Huseyjarkvisl is one of Iceland's top sea trout rivers with very large specimen caught each year. Since 2000 the river has been full catch and release and those practices have resulted in larger fish being caught every year and several double figure fish landed. The biggest sea trout landed in 2013 was a whopping 96 cm long. To give an example on how heavy these fish are a 75 cm fish was weighed 5,5 kilos in the net before it was returned safely.
In the period from April 1. - May 15. the river is fished with 3 rods specifically targeting sea trout. Due to the size and numbers of the sea trout in the river we have groups specifically targeting sea trout in September as well and then all 5 rods allowed on the river including the salmon beats are fishing. After September 25. the salmon beats are closed and again the sea trout beats, which are the lower beats on the river, are fished with three rods.
We recommend single handed rods, 6-8 wt and sink tip lines for most of the fishing. Floating lines should also be brought along. Streamers are used most frequently but nymphing is also a very productive method of fishing for sea trout.
The lodge sleeps 6 people in 3 double bedrooms. We offer the choice of self catering or full board in the lodge.
