About the river
The Nordura is one of Iceland's top salmon rivers with an average catch rate of over 2.000 salmon annually. Sometimes nicknamed the queen of rivers it is arguably one of the most beautiful rivers to fish in Iceland. The river is perfectly suited for fly fishing and only fly fishing is allowed on the river. It is very diverse with different scenery on each beat and different character of river.
Flies and tackle for Nordura
The Nordura can be fished with both single and double handed rods but we recommend shorter double hands. Floating lines are used for the most part, especially during mid season but in the early season and late season a sink tip line can come in handy. The Nordura River is perfect for hitching and fishing with small flies. Please see our section on Atlantic Salmon flies for ideas of what to bring or buy in Iceland.
The lodge is called Rjúpnahæð (e. Ptarmigan hill) and is perfectly located in the lower part of the river surrounded by birch overlooking the river that flows majestically in the canyon below. For the upper river there is a seperate self catered cabin where full service is optional. Rjúpnahæð lodge is a full service lodge with en suite facilities in every room and a steambath in a common area.
