New look on our site is live!

Written by Stjani. Posted in News.

fishing day tripsAs you may have noticed we have a new look on our website. This one is still under construction and some of the features not yet active. I'm still working on the photo galleries and finishing the listings of all the rivers with links to the photo galleries etc. Please have a look around, browse this new look and let me know what you think. If you find some broken links (which I'm sure you will) I would appreciate it if you would send me an e-mail to tell me about it.

It's our hope that this new look will make browsing the site easier and with this new site management system it will be easier for us to manage the site. I'd like to turn your attention to some reading material that can be found under the Top Menu link "Fishing Articles". It's up there as a submenu of "Fishing in Iceland".

Anyway - the new look is finally online and I hope those 20 minutes of downtime did not affect you all that much. Again I would like to ask for your help and ask you to let me know of all broken links you find.

Thank you,

Stjani Ben

Laxa in Leirarsveit 2013 fishing report

Written by Stjani. Posted in News.

leir buttonThe 2013 fishing season on the Laxa in Leirarsveit River was much better than the season before and a few fish more than the 5 year average. The season was good but not great like on so many of the river's neighbors. A total of 1006 salmon landed is quite alright for a river with 7 rods, an average of about 1,6 salmon per rod, per day.

It was obvious that the biggest runs hit the river in mid July when the weeks were producing 130 - 140 salmon per week. That makes almost 3 fish per rod per day on average, all fresh fish coming up. The action was fantastic and fish spread out well. Rain kept the water levels in optimum and fun was had by everyone.

The runs slowed down in August and in September the weather took a turn for the worse with relentless rain causing the river to flood through most of mid to late September. Nevertheless more than double the catch rate from 2012.

We are delighted to be able to offer one of the best weeks in the river (well not a full week) for the 2014 season at a great price. With the river located close to Reykjavik it is an easy transport from Keflavik airport to the river's lodge. The dates in question are the 7th - 12th of July 2014. With an average of 2,5 salmon landed per rod per day for those days in 2013 we are hopeful about the 2014 season. The fishing at that time is all done with small flies, single handed rods, hitching and stripping so the surface action is amazing. If you are looking for a river to swing big flies on a double handed rod this one is not for you (but we have others to offer).

These 5 days of fishing are a perfect getaway to get to experience what Iceland salmon fishing is all about.  For more details on this package trip simply follow this link:

Tight lines,
Stjani Ben
