September is a great month for fishing in Iceland. It's the time when all the salmon have run the rivers, the sea trout are starting their runs (means they are fresh) and the brown trout start getting territorial and agressive. Sure the hatches are not as abundant, the salmon are getting stale and harder to catch but the sea trout are strong and fresh. Oh and the prices are much better.
In September we have some fantastic fishing options available. If you are into sea trout fishing then you should take a good look at the option we have for September 22. - 25. on the Huseyjarkvisl River: http://bit.ly/1brrpE2
Fantastic trip where anglers are chasing big sea trout coming fresh into the river system as well as salmon who are all still in the river. Spring tide is on September 25th so we can expect some fantastic fishing for these dates.
Another great option for sea trout and salmon fishing is the Vatnsdalsa River from September 24. - 30. Vatnsdalsa is known for it's run of MSW's (Big fish) and those bad boys get caught (again) in September when they've started protecting their spawning grounds. In September one of the biggest salmon in recent years was caught on a Black & Blue size 10. A 115 cm cock fish nailed the fly and gave one angler the thrill of his life. Not many people know that the Vatnsdalsa also has a big run of sea trout and those will be fresh in the system at that time. Not only that but the lodge, the food and the guides are all top notch waiting to welcome you. More info here: http://bit.ly/1jAZQea
For late season Atlantic Salmon we have great options for the Laxa in Leirarsveit River, Thvera and Kjarra Rivers. More info on those options in an upcoming newsletter.
