Ever tried hitching for Atlantic Salmon?

Written by Stjani. Posted in News.

fishing langa 6It hasn't been long since I myself experienced hitching for the first time but ever since I've been in love with this particular fishing method for Atlantic Salmon. Funnily enough the first fish I caught on the hitch was not a salmon but a sea trout. Yes - it's true, sea trout or sea run brown trout as they call them in the States, will take a hitch when given the chance. Well - come to think of it I've also caught several char and brown trout with the hitch in my time. Anyway - it's always as much fun no matter what takes it.

To get familiar with the method here is an article I wrote on Hitching for Atlantic Salmon. Also here below you can see a video of what the hitching actually does. Notice the hitch tube land on the water on the left. You can see the line and then a few feet in front you can see the fly skate on the surface. Then notice what reaction that invokes from the salmon:

Now this time the salmon did not take it. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. The main thing is not to trout set. Remain calm until you feel the tug of the fish. I think you can all agree that even though the fish does not take it, it's fun anyway.

The reason I'm talking about this is that we have some great fishing permits available for a river that is world famous for being a great hitching river, the Langa River. We have some rods open for prime time salmon fishing for 3 days from July 23. - 26.
